What is the relationship between humans and other living things? In this course, you will explore some of the ways in which we are connected with the life of our planet. Through the semester, you will gain a broad understanding of biology, the scientific study of life. I will ask you to apply your knowledge of biology to your own life, come to your own well-reasoned conclusions about scientific issues, develop your ability to communicate effectively, and pursue your own curiosity. Modern human society is entirely dependent on the careful application of the scientific method and on diverse plants, animals, fungi, and bacteria; understanding biology will be important through your life to help you make informed decisions that will affect you, your family, your society, future generations, and all of life on Earth.
